How to Tune an Electric Guitar with a Microphone
You can tune an electric guitar with just your computer or phone microphone: plug into an amp at low volume with a clean tone, or simply let the mic hear the strings acoustically — unplugged electric strings are quiet but perfectly tunable. Pluck one string at a time and bring the needle into the green zone, from low E to high E (E-A-D-G-B-E).
Use the neck pickup and roll the tone down if the needle jumps — a strong fundamental with fewer harmonics is easier for the tuner to read. Tune up to pitch, never down, and stretch new strings before fine-tuning. The audio is analyzed locally on your device and never leaves the browser.
