Guitar Right-Hand Exercises: Fingerpicking Play-Along
Pluck the highlighted string on the beat — slow first, then speed up
Guitar Right-Hand (Fingerpicking) Practice Guide
This drill shows a highlighted string on every beat — your job is to pluck it exactly in time. It includes classic fingerpicking patterns such as 5-3-2-3-1-3-2-3, beginner songs like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Ode to Joy in number notation, and a random mode where you choose the string pool to build real sight-reading reflexes.
Start at 60 BPM and keep your wrist relaxed with small, economical finger movements. Use your thumb for the 6th, 5th and 4th strings and your index, middle and ring fingers for the 3rd, 2nd and 1st strings. When a pattern feels automatic, switch to the random mode — reacting to unpredictable strings is what turns a memorized pattern into a usable skill.
